Compress image to 50 KB
Compress a photo to under 50 KB for passport, visa and job application uploads. Free, on your device, no upload, keeps the picture sharp.
Runs on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
50 KB is the most common cap for a passport-style photo: visa portals, recruitment forms, university admissions and many KYC uploads use it. It is a comfortable limit, so a head-and-shoulders photo keeps good detail.
The widget is preset to 50 KB. Add one photo or fifty, press Compress and download each one. Nothing is sent to a server.
Who asks for this size
| Where 50 KB is required | Typical rule |
|---|---|
| Passport-style photo on recruitment forms (SSC, IBPS, PSC) | 20 KB to 50 KB, JPG, 200 × 230 px or 3.5 × 4.5 cm |
| Visa and e-visa applicant photos | Often 50 KB to 100 KB, JPG, square or 3.5 × 4.5 cm |
| Thumb impression and small scanned proofs | 20 KB to 50 KB, JPG |
| Profile photos on older HR and e-learning systems | Under 50 KB |
What to expect
At 50 KB a face photo keeps about 400 × 500 pixels at good quality, which is above what most forms ask for. Dimensions are only reduced when the source is very large or very detailed.
If the portal gives a pixel size as well, enter it under Max side; the file will then be both the right size in pixels and under 50 KB.
Tips
- Shoot against a plain light wall. Busy backgrounds cost bytes that the face needs.
- Compress the original, not a screenshot. Screenshots add blur and often a frame.
- For a 20 to 50 KB window, aim at 45 KB: type 45 instead of 50 so a tiny difference in the portal's size check cannot reject the file.
Questions
Does 50 KB keep enough quality for a printed photo?
For a screen and for the small print on an admit card or ID, yes. For a 10 × 15 cm print you would want several hundred KB.
Can I compress several passport photos at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 files; each is compressed to under 50 KB and you can download them one by one or all together.
The form says 3.5 × 4.5 cm. What do I enter?
Centimetres are a print size. At 300 dpi that is 413 × 531 pixels; set Max side to 531 and the tool handles the rest.
My photo is already under 50 KB. Should I still compress?
No need. If the format is JPG and the pixel size matches the form, upload it as it is.
