Compress image to 100 KB

Reduce any JPG, PNG or HEIC photo to under 100 KB for forms, email and websites. Free, private, runs in your browser, no quality guesswork.

Runs on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

100 KB is the everyday limit: government and university portals, HR systems, marketplace listings and many WordPress themes expect images around this size. It is roomy enough for a sharp 800 to 1000 pixel photo.

The widget is preset to 100 KB. Drop the files, press Compress, download. HEIC photos from an iPhone are converted to JPG on the way.

What to expect

A 12-megapixel phone photo compressed to 100 KB usually ends up around 1000 pixels wide at 70 to 80 percent quality. On a phone screen it looks the same as the original.

Documents and screenshots with text compress less well than photos. If a scan will not fit, use Max side 1280 so the tool starts from a smaller image.

Tips

  • Pick 100 KB even when the limit is 150 KB; portals sometimes measure size differently and a small margin avoids a rejection.
  • For web use, also set Max side to 1920 so you never ship a 4000-pixel image.
  • Keep the original. Compression is one-way; you cannot get the detail back.

Questions

Does compressing to 100 KB reduce resolution?

Only if quality alone cannot reach the target. The tool tries quality first and shrinks the pixel size as a last step, 20 percent at a time.

Can I compress a PNG screenshot to 100 KB?

Yes. It is converted to JPG, which is far smaller for screenshots with photos in them. For screenshots of plain text, PNG to WebP keeps the text crisper.

Is there a limit on the number of files?

Fifty per batch, up to 50 MB each. Everything is processed on your device, so speed depends on your phone or laptop.

Will the EXIF data be kept?

No. The image is redrawn, so the camera model, date and GPS position are dropped. For an upload to a public site that is usually what you want.
