Compress video for Discord

Fit a video under Discord's upload limit: 20 MB free, 50 MB Nitro Basic, 100 MB in boosted servers. On your device, no upload, no watermark.

Runs on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. Roughly real-time on a laptop, two to four times slower on a phone. Keep the tab open.

Discord does not shrink your video; it simply refuses files over the limit. Free accounts get 20 MB per file since August 2026 (it was 10 MB before), Nitro Basic 50 MB, Nitro 500 MB, and servers boosted to level 2 or 3 allow 50 MB and 100 MB for everyone posting there.

The widget is preset to 20 MB. Change the number to 50 or 100 if your account or server allows it, press Compress video and upload the result.

What to expect

A one-minute gameplay clip at 20 MB keeps 720p and looks good; two minutes drops to 854 pixels wide; five minutes to 640. Trim the highlight first and the quality jumps.

Output is a standard MP4 that plays inline in Discord on desktop and mobile.

Tips

  • Aim one megabyte under the limit, for example 19 MB, so container overhead cannot push you over.
  • Mute game clips you narrate later; audio takes bitrate that the picture could use.
  • For a 1080p result, keep the clip under 40 seconds at 20 MB.

Questions

Why does Discord say the file is too big at 20 MB?

Discord counts the exact byte size. Compress to 19 MB to leave a margin.

Is the 10 MB limit still true?

No. Discord raised the free limit to 20 MB in August 2026. Older guides quote 8 MB or 10 MB.

Can I compress a .mov or .webm?

Yes. MP4, MOV, WebM and AVI are accepted; the result is always MP4.

Is anything uploaded to this site?

No. The compression runs locally in your browser.
