Compress PDF to 500 KB

Compress a scanned or photo-heavy PDF to under 500 KB while keeping it clearly readable. Runs on your device, no upload, no sign-up.

Runs on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. Balanced and Strong turn pages into images, so text is no longer selectable.

500 KB is the sweet spot for multi-page uploads: transcripts, insurance claims, application packets and e-mail attachments where several files share a limit.

The widget is preset to 500 KB. Most documents fit on the first or second pass at 120 to 144 dpi, which reads cleanly on any screen.

Who asks for this size

Where 500 KB is requiredTypical rule
University transcripts and mark sheetsUnder 500 KB, PDF
Insurance claim forms and receiptsUnder 500 KB to 1 MB
Application packets on government portalsUnder 500 KB per document
Attachments where the form allows 2 MB in totalUnder 500 KB each

What to expect

A ten-page scanned document typically fits at 500 KB with text sharp at 120 dpi. Colour is kept unless the last passes are needed.

Pages become images, so text is not selectable; appearance is unchanged.

Tips

  • Scan at 150 dpi instead of 300 if you still have the paper; the tool then needs only a light pass.
  • Compress each document separately rather than one merged file; portals usually want them apart anyway.
  • If text must stay selectable, use the Light level on the main Compress PDF page; it keeps the text layer with a smaller saving.

Questions

Will a 500 KB PDF be readable when printed?

Yes for text and forms. Photographs inside the PDF will look slightly soft on paper.

Does the tool work with PDFs from a phone scanner app?

Yes. Those are usually large JPEG pages and compress very well.

How long does it take?

A few seconds per page on a laptop, a bit longer on a phone. Each extra pass renders the pages again.

Can I pick 400 KB instead?

Yes. Type any number in the box; the presets are just shortcuts.
