## How it works

Paste or type. Counts update on every keystroke. Characters are counted with and without spaces, which matters for X posts, meta descriptions and application forms.

Reading time assumes 225 words a minute, speaking time 150, the usual figures for adult readers and presenters.

### How are words counted?

Anything separated by spaces or line breaks counts as a word, the same rule Microsoft Word uses.

### Does it work with Arabic, Urdu or Hindi text?

Yes. Characters are counted per letter, not per byte, so every script is counted correctly.
