Gmail, Outlook.com and iCloud Mail cap attachments at about 25 MB, and company mail servers are often stricter at 10 MB. The attachment is also encoded for transport, which adds about a third, so a 25 MB video does not fit a 25 MB limit. ## What to expect

At 25 MB a one-minute clip keeps 1080p and a three-minute clip 720p. Five minutes drops to 640 pixels wide; beyond that, share a link instead.

Transport encoding adds about 33 percent, so a 20 MB file becomes 27 MB on the wire. The 25 MB preset already leaves that margin for Gmail's 25 MB limit; for a 10 MB server, choose 8.

- Choose 20 MB rather than 25 for Gmail if the message also has text and images.
- For a strict company server pick 8 MB; the quality is still fine for a short clip.
- Name the file clearly before sending; the tool keeps your filename and adds -compressed.

## Questions

### Why does a 24 MB video fail in Gmail?

Attachments are base64-encoded, which adds about a third. 24 MB becomes 32 MB in transit. Compress to 18 to 20 MB instead.

### Does the recipient need special software?

No. The MP4 plays in every mail app and browser.

### Can I compress a long video for email?

You can, but a 10-minute clip at 25 MB looks poor. Trim it or send a link to the file.
