## How it works

Use the color box or type a HEX code. The RGB and HSL values, the tint and shade ladder and the contrast checks update instantly. Press Copy next to the format you need.

To take a color from a photo or screenshot, choose an image and click on it. The image stays on your device; the color is read from the pixel you clicked.

## Questions

### What does the contrast ratio mean?

It compares your color against white and black text. Accessibility guidelines ask for at least 4.5:1 for normal text, shown here as AA.

### What is the difference between HEX, RGB and HSL?

They describe the same color. HEX is the compact web form, RGB lists red, green and blue from 0 to 255, HSL uses hue, saturation and lightness, which is easier for adjusting a color by eye.
